HTN: Governor Gives Back Part of Salary
Governor Paterson is fulfilling a pledge to take a pay cut. The governor is cutting a check for 18-thousand dollars, equal to a ten-percent pay cut from his 179-thousand-dollar annual salary. But the move is not encouraging state union leaders to follow suit. The governor is threatening to lay off 89-hundred government workers, unless the state's public workers union accepts concessions. The Public Employees Federation is refusing to give up raises due this year. The governor is looking for 481-million dollars in savings over the next two years from unionized workers.
