HTN: More Protection for State Police

New York State Police will be getting a new way to protect themselves during armed confrontations. Soon, police vehicles will be equipped with ballistic door panels meant to stop bullets. From now on, every new Ford Crown Victoria and Chevy Tahoe patrol vehicle purchased will be equipped with the new panels, made from a material that reduces the probability a bullet will go through the vehicle.

Hometown News: Why Delay in Responding to Fatal Accident?

State Police officials plan to investigate why it took three hours to respond to an accident that killed two children and seriously injured their father. A passing driver reported seeing the vehicle go off the Thruway in Chautaqua County at 5:18 p-m Monday, but a trooper found no skid marks or sign-post damage, so he cleared the call. At about 8:15, the father apparently regained consciousness and called to report the accident.
