HTN: Paterson, Obama Agree on Delaying DTV
Governor Paterson wants to put a hold on the transition of analog to digital TV. Paterson announced his support for President-elect Obama's push back of the scheduled transition date. The Digital Television converter program has run out of money and people can no longer get the 40-dollar coupon for converter boxes. The boxes will be a necessity when the switch to digital happens for those who don't have digital TV sets. Paterson wants a delay "for as long as it takes consumers to get the information, assistance and coupons they need."

HTN: Classic TV off Local Channel
A dispute between the former and current owners of Retro Television Network [[ RTN ]] knocked a bunch of classic TV shows off local affiliate WNGS-TV. Instead of running the classic TV shows, it's running movies. Equity Media Holding Corporation, the former owner of RTN, is no longer allowed to air RTN programs on its. Equity's contract to distribute the RTN network was extended a week past the original December 24th expiration date. The 24th was the deadline for Equity to opt to buy back RTN from Luken Communications, the current owner. Luken bought RTN back in June for 25-million dollars. Luken is a large shareholder in Equity Media. Equity filed bankruptcy papers in Little Rock, Arkansas last month.

Channels Off Cable
Channels 4 and 23 have gone dark on Time Warner Cable. The midnight Thursday deadline passed without a deal between LIN-TV and TWC to keep the stations on-air. LIN TV wants to be compensated allowing the stations to be carried on cable. Time Warner believes it shouldn't have to pay for channels available over-the-air for free. TWC Spokeswoman Robin Wolfgang says the situation is a lose-lose.

TV Job for Luke Russert?
Tim Russert's son may end up on TV himself. According to the "New York Post's" "Page Six," NBC executives were apparently so impressed with how 22-year-old Luke Russert handled himself while discussing his father's death and funeral last month, they are thinking about having him help cover the upcoming presidential election.

Telethon Gets New Location
Channel 7's Variety Kids Telethon is moving to a new location. Officials announced this morning that the telethon will have a new home at the Adam's Mark Hotel downtown. The Variety Club of Buffalo telethon has entered a four-year agreement with the Adam's Mark. In recent years the telethon had been held at the Millennium Hotel in Cheektowaga. Next year's telethon will air the last weekend in February.

Anchorman Ron Hunter Dead
Former Channel 2 anchorman Ron Hunter has died at age 70 in Las Vegas. Hunter worked at Channel 2 in the early '70s, and also anchored in Miami, Chicago, and Philadelphia. Hunter was said by some to be one of the inspirations for the film "Anchorman."
