Hometown News: Cheektowaga Standoff
A six hour standoff in Cheektowaga ended peacefully yesterday with one arrest. Police responded to a violent domestic dispute call Sunday just after 9 a.m. on Pendennis Place. Autorities say a woman came out saying her boyfriend had attacked her and claimed he had a gun. In the end the SWAT team broke down a door and arrested 35-year-old Stephen Hubbard without incident. He has been charged with menacing.

HTN: Buffalo-Cheektowaga Border Talks
Residents on the Buffalo and Cheektowaga border talked about safety at an open forum Wednesday night. Residents discussed ways to improve the streets and neighborhoods. Police, judges and town officials outlined initiatives such as more foot patrols and ways to spruce up vacant homes. The meeting was set up by the Buffalo Cheektowaga Neighborhood Revitalization Task Force which is investigating ways for the border areas to work together

HTN: Buffalo-Cheektowaga Border Projects Funded
Buffalo and Cheektowaga are teaming up to spruce up neighborhoods on their border. A federal and state grant worth more than two-and-a-half million dollars is on the way to fund demolitions, housing rehabilitation and other improvements. The two municipalities will work together on a land bank to buy and sell properties for re-development.

HTN: Missing Man Found in Maryland
A missing Cheektowaga man was found safe in his own car yesterday morning, but a long way from home. Eighty-three-year-old Richard Eberle was picked up in Frederick, Maryland , after not showing up for a Tuesday afternoon doctor's appointment. He had last been seen about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Tops Plaza on Union Road. Eberle was stopped in Maryland early yesterday morning, for driving north on a southbound road, and a run of his plate number showed the missing person alert. Eberle has a history of wandering off.

HTN: Fatal Accident in Cheektowaga
A section of Genesee Street near our Cheektowaga studios was closed down this morning after an accident that killed a town resident. Police say a car driven by 23-year-old David Cramer of Buffalo struck 53-year-old Paul Albano as he was trying to cross Genesee near Vegola shortly after 6 A.M. Dark and rainy conditions may have contributed to the crash. Albano, who was on his way to work at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene. Cramer was charged with driving with a suspended license.

Cheektowaga Board to Vote on Pay Cut
You've heard about Kevin Gaughan's efforts to downsize local governments. The Cheektowaga Town Board meets Wednesday wth another idea to save money. Council Members James Rogowski, Richard Zydel and Stanley Kaznowski have proposed rolling back their own pay by about 9%.

Apparent Suicide in Cheektowaga Jail
A man was found dead in his cell at the Cheektowaga Police Station early this morning less than an hour after he was arrested. Police said the man was arrested on Walden Avenue for assault and violation of an order of protection. He's been identified only as a 45-year-old Cheektowaga resident, pending family notification.

Alleged Serial Robber Arrested
Police believe they have the man responsible for a series of robberies across the area. After a chase this morning, Cheektowaga cops nabbed 36-year-old Brian Stauffer just before 9:30 on the I-90 near William Street. The chase and arrest tied up traffic on the Thruway during the late morning commute.

Cheektowaga Town Official Resigns
A Cheektowaga recreation supervisor has quit after a the alleged embezzling of up to $50,000 from the town's Youth & Recreational Services department. 39-year-old Paul Marchewka had worked for the department for 14 years. Now, Cheektowaga police say he is the target of a probe into accounting irregularities over the past four years.

Cheektowaga Rules On Drive-Throughs
The Town of Cheektowaga is trying to put an end to drive-through line backups that spill out into the street. The Town Board approved restrictions on drive-through windows, including a mandatory set-back of 75 feet from the property line, 660 feet from an intersection, and room for sixteen vehicles to line up for doughnuts or coffee.
