HTN: New Giraffe at Zoo

The Buffalo Zoo's newest addition has made her debut. Malia is the newest member of the giraffe exhibit. The baby giraffe was born on January 10th and now stands more than six and a half feet tall. She is named after President Barack Obama's daughter.

HTN: Zoo Starts Winter Hours

For the rest of this month and February, the Buffalo Zoo will be closed both Mondays and Tuesdays. Wednesday through Sunday, the zoo will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The seven-day-a-week schedule will return sometime in March. More information is available by calling 995-6129.

Small Fire at Zoo

A fire broke out this morning at the Buffalo Zoo. Fire officials say the fire started around 9:30 on the roof of the new rain forest exhibit which is still under construction. The zoo was able to open as scheduled today at 10 a.m. The South American Rain Forest exhibit is set to open to the public in July.

Pachyderms Presented in Columbus

The Columbus Zoo is hosting the three female Asian elephants from the Buffalo Zoo. Buki, Surapa and Jothi took up temporary quarters earlier this month while the Buffalo Zoo's Elephant House undergoes an expansion. Zookeepers had kept them quarantined for two weeks after their long road trip, but they were introduced to Columbus zoo patrons yesterday.

All Three Elephants Now in Columbus

The third Asian elephant was moved from the Buffalo Zoo overnight. Buki, Suapa and Jothi are relocating to Columbus during renovation at their old house. The elephants may come home by summer's end.
